Asymmetrical nature of India Inc's growth worrisome
Publish Date : 1/16/2007 2:36:00 PM   Source : Business News ExpressNewsline.com

Asymmetrical nature of India's growth story so far is a worrying factor for the India Inc as investments are only getting into a select few states and companies, analysts say.

Speaking on the topic, Key Economic Drivers of Indian Economy during FICCI's Annual Capital Market Conference, Executive Director and Chief Economist of Crisil Subir Gokarn said this has been as a result of shift from the public sector dominated model to private sector dominated model.

Observing another worrying investment pattern, Gokarn said startup companies in manufacturing were finding it difficult to raise money, partly due to investment climate.

If economic activity is dependent on incumbent, it is not a good sign, Gokarn said while adding, "we need investment framework to facilitate funding for the startup and people who have great ideas." While the growing divide in the Indian growth story is worrisome, comfort can be taken from the fact that there is no restriction on people moving out of their state boundaries in search of job but it was definitely going to create social pressure, he said.

Another worrying factor was big crisis building up in the field of education as existing educational infrastructure was not sufficient to cater to the future demand of trained professionals, said Aditya Birla Group's Chief Economist, Ajit Ranade.
