American woman of Indian origin becomes First lady mahant

American citizen of Indian origin Laxmi Devi Chalandi Sarvadanand Mai Siama was conferred the title of Mahamandaleshwar (mahant) at a function organised at the famous Satuwa Baba Ashram in Manikarnika Ghat area here today, ashram sources said.
The Mahamandaleshwar honour was presented to her by Jagadguru Vishnu Swami Yamna Charya, popularly known as Satuwa Baba, in the presence of hundreds of his disciples amidst chanting of vedic mantras.
Over 50 disciples of Satuwa Baba drawn from abroad including France, Australia, America, Italy and Germany were also present at the ceremony who were also made saints and given new names.
Siama is the first woman to be accorded this honour and will now participate in religious meetings along with other spiritual leaders, the sources added.
