Besides studying the tenets of historic communist figures like Marx, Lenin and Mao, future Chinese mandarins will now have to learn the doctrines propounded by contemporary leaders Jiang Zemin and current President Hu Jintao.
The ruling Communist Party of China (CPC) has announced that training plan of the Party School for 2006-2010 will include the study of party General Secretary Hu's tenets as well as those of Karl Marx, Lenin, Mao Zedong, Deng Xiaopeng and Hu's predecessor Jiang Zemin.
Students will study Marxism, Leninism, Mao Zedong Thought, Deng Xiaoping Theory, Hu Jintao's doctrine of a "harmonious socialist society" and the "Three Represents" Important Thought of Jiang Zemin.
The CPC's Party School is the top training centre for almost all the party's middle and high-ranking officials. The decision to include the ideas of Hu and Jiang comes as the party is preparing for its 17th Party Congress in the second half of the year, which may witness some major leadership changes.
"The CPC is paying great attention to its cadre training, which is a key task in party construction," the official Xinhua news agency quoted the CPC plan as saying.
Various local cadre training institutions have been set up nationwide, which, with the CPC central party school and the China National School of Administration at the central level, have created a comprehensive network of training, the plan said.
