Delhi govt comes out with measures

Faced with rising complaints against power distcoms, the Delhi government today came out with a slew of measures to provide succour to the harried consumers.
The measures include provisions like no theft cases against the consumer merely on the ground that the seal of the meter was found tampered, involvement of RWAs in raids to check power thefts and public consultation and transparency in the working of the distcoms.
The directives were issued to the distcoms at a meeting of the Public Grievance Cell, which was presided over by Justice (retd) R C Chopra and attended by Principal Secretary (Power) Rakesh Mehta.
Apart from this, if the electricity bills of a consumer is 50 per cent more or 50 per cent less than that of last month's, a senior officer will assure that it has been billed properly.
The consumer should also be informed of the action taken on the complaints of the misbehaviour of the staff and the action taken on such complaints should be publicised.
The staff at the public dealing counters of distcoms including the call centre executives should be provided complete and correct information and street lighting should be regulated.
