The demand of Congress and other opposition parties for imposition of President's rule in Uttar Pradesh is "undemocratic and unconstitutional", state's Food and Civil Supplies Minister Raghuraj Pratap Singh alias Raja Bhaiya today said.
Congress and other opposition parties were "misleading" the people by raising an "undemocratic and unconstitional" demand for imposition of President's rule and by doing so they were also tarnishing the image of their respective parties, he told reporters here.
Terming the resignation of RLD ministers from the Samajwadi Party-led government as "opportunism", Singh said the move was prompted by chief minister Mulayam Singh Yadav's refusal to give 100 to 125 seats to the Ajit Singh led party in the coming assembly elections.
The issue of cane prices was merely an excuse, he said adding Ajit Singh was under the wrong impression that the SP would not be able to get majority without his support.
"SP would gain majority on its own," he said.
Singh demanded imposition of President's rule in Assam saying attack on Hindi speaking people there was a bad precedent.
"Security of Hindi speaking people in such areas is at stake...Any ban on movement of people on the basis of language would be detrimental for the unity of the nation," he said.
