Publish Date : 1/20/2007 8:11:00 AM   Source : Travel News ExpressNewsline.com

Like many top international golfers, Shiv Kapur has also been smitten by the desert charm and is planning to base himself in Dubai to facilitate his travel between the Asian and European Tours.

"Dubai is right in the middle, in a way of speaking. It is easy to get to Asian events and also to Europe and the conditions to play and practice are superb. I plan to look for a place and make it as one of my bases," Kapur said.

Kapur, who is playing at the Abu Dhabi Open golf championships here, is planning to divide his time between Asian and European Tour events with more accent on big-money events in Europe.

Dubai of late has become a popular base for many European golfers. The weather and golfing conditions with some of the finest courses around are attracting big stars.

Swedish trio Thomas Bjorn, Henrik Stenson and Johan Edfors have all made Dubai their home, as has Gregory Havret of France and Yasin Ali, a Kenya-born golfer.

With a slew of brilliant golf courses in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, the Middle East is indeed turning out to be a paradise for international golfers.

Even Tiger Woods has penciled Dubai as one of his more regular non-US spots and has signed up to design his first ever golf course.

Colin Montgomerie, Ernie Els and the legendary Greg Norman have all lent their signatures to various courses in the region.
