The Jammu and Kashmir government Sunday arrested two policemen and shifted two senior officers after a youth disappeared in mysterious circumstances.
Assistant Sub-Inspector Farooq Ahmad Gudoo and Constable Farooq Ahmed Paddar were arrested for their alleged involvement in the disappearance of Abdul Rehman Paddar who was last seen in Batmaloo locality of this summer capital, an official statement said.
Ganderbal police chief H.R. Parihar and Bahadur Ram, the deputy superintendent in charge of the special operations group (SOG), have also been attached to the office of Kashmir's inspector general of police till further orders.
The family members of Abdul Rehman Paddar, resident of Larnoo village in Anantnag district, had filed a complaint at the Batmaloo police station in Srinagar on Jan 23, saying the youngster was abducted by unknown people from Batmaloo on Dec 8.
They told police that the youth had a mobile phone with him when he went missing. Following investigations, police recovered the mobile from a member of the SOG who said Farooq Ahmad Gudoo had given it to him.
The recovery of the phone has raised fresh questions about the youth's disappearance.
The government has asked the deputy inspector general of police (Central Kashmir) to conduct an inquiry into the incident.
