Life was affected in parts of Nepal due to separate strikes called by two political groups demanding more rights for the country's ethnic minorities.
Markets and educational institutions remained closed and transport services were halted during a strike called by the Terai Janatantrik Mukti Morcha, a splinter group of the Maoists, in the southern Terai plains bordering India.
The agitators were demanding autonomy, self-governance and more representation to the Madhesi people, police said.
The strike mainly affected life in Saptari and Siraha districts in eastern Nepal and Dhanusha in central Nepal.
However, there were no reports of violence, police said.
Parts of western Nepal were also affected due to a strike called by the Federation of Indigenous Nationalities, which is demanding greater rights for people belonging to ethnic minorities.
Demonstrators halted traffic in Pokhara and Baglung, both west of the capital Kathmandu, they said.
