The Indian cricket board postponed its press conference on the selection of the national coach to Friday even as a special panel interviewed the four candidates for the post here.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had scheduled the press conference Thursday evening but its president Ranbir Singh Mahendra told reporters it would now be held at 12.30 p.m. on Friday.
He said the special panel had interviewed former Australian captain Greg Chappell and former Indian batsman Mohinder Amarnath in the morning.
The interviews of Australian Tom Moody and former West Indies opener Desmond Haynes were held up as BCCI officials had to rush for an unexpected meeting with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to discuss the tax exemption issue for the 2006 Champions Trophy.
The 2006 Champions Trophy has been allocated to India by the International Cricket Council.
It is not clear if the BCCI would announce the new coach at the press conference Friday.
The interview panel is headed by Mahendra. Its other members are BCCI secretary S.K. Nair, former BCCI president Jagmohan Dalmiya, and ex-captains S. Venkataraghavan, Sunil Gavaskar and Ravi Shastri.
