Russian Minister of Culture and Mass Communications Alexander Sokolov called on his Indian counterpart Ambika Soni here today, and discussed with her cultural and bilateral relations between the to countries.
During their half-an-hour meeting, Soni conveyed to the visiting dignitary the high importance which India attaches to its relations with Russia, saying the strengthening of relations between the two countries can be gauged by a series of high level changes in the last two years.
She cited the examples of visits of President APJ Abdul Kalam, Prime Minister Monmohan Singh and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi to Russia, and visits to India by Russian Prime Minister Fradkov and the current visit of President Vladimir Putin in this regard.
Both the leaders recalled holding of the "Days of Russian Culture" in India in 2003 and "Days of Indian Culture" in Russia in 2005, said Culture Ministry release. Soni in particular recalled the wholehearted support of Sokolov for the "Days of Indian Culture" in Russia in September-October, 2005.
She expressed that with the proposed signing of the new "Cultural Exchange Programme for the year 2007-09", the Indo-Russia cultural and academic exchanges will get a new boost.
The Minister also briefed Sokolov about the successful Indian tourism promotion in the international media-- the Incredible India campaign.
