Self-styled Hizb commander arrested

In a major success, Jammu and Kashmir police today arrested a self-styled district commander of Hizbul Mujahideen outfit, Maqsood Ahmad Bhat alias Tariq, involved in the killing of 11 people, including a police officer.
The top militant commander, who was active in the valley since 1996, was arrested on a tip off from Baramulla town. An AK rifle along with two magazines were recovered on his disclosure from Lalpora village of Pattan, a police spokesman said.
Hailing from Mamoosa-Pattan village of Baramulla, the spokesman said Bhat was wanted in connection with the killing of 11 persons, including a police officer and president of municipal committee Pattan, Mohammad Ramzan.
Ramzan was killed alongwith two his personal security officers and a policeman in Pattan on May 16, 2005.
He was responsible for the killing of Ghulam Rasool Bhat, father of a municipal councillor, at Goshwara-Pattan on May 16, 2005, PDP block president Reyaz Ahmad Bhat on June 15, 2005, and assistant sub-inspector Ali Mohammad Malik on March 11, 2006.
The captured militant was also wanted in connection with the killing of Ghulam Muhideen Dar of Turk Batpora Pattan on December 24, 2006, Sajad Ahmed Mir of Indergam Pattan on January 7, 2007 and two brothers Abdul Rashid Bhat and Mohammed Shafi Bhat of Khalpora Pattan.
