Traders demand amendments to draft masterplan

Contending that the draft masterplan 2021 lacks vision and foresightedness, Delhi traders today demanded a host of amendments in the document to cope with the growing needs of the capital.
In a memorandum submitted to UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, Leader of Opposition L K Advani, Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit and the DDA board, the Confederation of Indian Traders demanded a slew of changes in the draft masterplan.
The CAIT has demanded that health and medical facilities and chemist shops should be allowed in the whole of Delhi without any limitation of any size, all pre-DDA colonies, resettlement colonies should be declared as commercial areas and be given the status of rehabilitation colonies.
Apart from this, the memorandum also demanded that commercial activities should be allowed on all floors of pedestrian shopping streets and the scope of the professional category should be expanded to include any stock taking activity or business not restricted under law.
The Upper floors of local shopping centres should also be allowed for commercial use, it said.
The traders also demanded setting up of multi-level parking lots at convenient places nearby and the available parking space may be given to trade bodies on BOT basis.
