ULFA's design will be frustrated

The Centre was determined to frustrate the designs of the ULFA to create a divide between the Assamese and non-Assamese people through violence, Union minister of state for Home Sriprakash Jaiswal said here today.
"In the last one month, ULFA resorted to violence in upper Assam to create a divide between the Assamese and the non-Assamese and drive away the non-Assamese from there. The Centre is determined to protect the non-Assamese and frustrate ULFA's designs," Jaiswal, the Union minister told reporters.
He said that a sense of confidence would have to be instilled among the non-Assamese people living there. "They should not leave Assam though ULFA is trying to create such a situation," he said.
The state government, he said, was performing its duty and the Centre has extended assistance.
The Centre would also send adequate para-military forces to Assam which would hold the National Games next month.
