Pakistan, Egypt stress on need to counter terrorism

Pakistan and Egypt today expressed unanimous views on the need for new initiatives to resolve the Palestinian dispute and to counter extremism and terrorism that was damaging the very fabric of the Muslim world.

President Pervez Musharraf, on an official visit to Egypt, met Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak for over 90 minutes during which they discussed the Middle East situation, Pakistan Foreign Minister K hurshid Kasuri and his Egyptian counterpart Ahmed Aboul Ghet told reporters.

The two leaders also discussed the situation in Iraq, regional and international issues, besides bilateral matters, he said, adding that the meeting was "good and useful" with both sides expressing identical views.

The two leaders also called for the adoption of measures to address the scourge of terrorism that was damaging the very fabric of the Muslim world.

Asked about Pakistan's ties with Israel, Kasuri said his country has not launched full fledged relations with it "as the public opinion does not favour establishing full ties with Israel in the absence of resolution of the Palestinian dispute." President Musharraf is going to Jordan where he will meet King Abdullah II before heading for Syria and the United Arab Emirates.
