Both the precious metals continued to decline on the bullion market here today on sustained offering from stockists in view of fall in the international markets.
Standard gold (99.5 purity) dropped further by Rs 35 per ten grams to Rs 9,680 from Rs 9,715 previously.
Pure gold (99.9 purity) also moved down to Rs 9,730 from from Rs 9,765 yesterday.
In New york, gold and silver futures finished sharply lower Wednesday largely due to the late Tuesday electronic sell-off triggered when equities fell sharply, which prompted a round of long liquidation overnight, traders said.
April gold fell USD 14.70 to USD 672.50 an ounce on the Comex division of the New York Mercantile Exchange. Shortly after it closed, the April contract at the Chicago Board of Trade was down USD 14.40 to USD 672.90.
In Hongkong market, gold ended slightly lower at USD 671.50/672.30 per ounce as against 672.70/673.50 per ounce previously.
In the local market, silver ready (.999 fineness) eased further to Rs 20,520 from Rs 20,550.
