Scores of people blocked the highway for over an hour here on Wednesday to express their solidarity with Mohammed Sidiq Gojri who was injured in grenade attack on Monday, but succumbed to his injuries early today.
Gojri, a resident of main market Pattan, was injured along with 12 civilians when militants hurled a grenade at the Army near Higher Secondary School Pattan on January 22.
He was shifted to SKIMS Soura in critical condition, where he succumbed to his injuries.
As soon as the dead body of Sidiq was brought to Pattan, a pall of gloom descended in the entire area with people expressing strong resentment against the grenade lobbers.
The shopkeepers downed their shutters and people blocked the main National Highway for more than one hour. Chanting religious slogans, the demonstrators demanded action against the grenade lobbers.
It was only after the police intervened and assured that killers of Sidiq will be brought to book, the highway was opened.
Meanwhile, a shopkeeper died of heart attack suffered after a grenade explosion in Bandipore town in north Kashmir.
Muhammad Yusuf Zargar of Agar, who was admitted to Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) after the blast on Tuesday, died today, police sources said.
