Addressing scientists aged below 35 at the concluding function of the year-long golden Jubilee of BARC here yesterday, Kakodkar said the country already faced the technology denial regime (especially in dual purpose nuclear technology).

He, however, said that to attain institutional excellence as well to become a goldmine of technology, "it is important to impose voluntary import denials wherever possible, which will help attain our vision of being suppliers of technology".

He reiterated that young scientists should continuously strive for excellence in newer technologies so that "soon we will become technology suppliers".

Highlighting the jubilee celebrations of BARC, its director Srikumar Banerjee said the year began with the reminiscence of pioneers of India's nuclear programme and concluded with the futuristic goal of young scientists.

He also pointed out some major developments achieved by BARC during the year like Integrated Test Loop Facility and Critical Facility for Advanced Heavy Water Reactor.

He also referred to the Tera Electron Volt Atmospheric Cherenkov Telescope with imaging camera (TACTI) at Mount Abu, release of eight new Trombay seed varieties, installation of five Nisaragruna Plants, Component Integrated Test Facility and Portable Personal Decontamination Unit.
