Indo-Pak Thar Express to resume journey by February end: Velu
Publish Date : 1/19/2007 9:38:00 AM   Source : Travel News ExpressNewsline.com

The Indo-Pak Thar Express train would most likely resume its service by February end, six months after its movement between Khokhrapar and Munabao was disrupted on August 24 due to rain water logging in Barmer district, Minister of State for Railways R Velu said today.

The water level was gradually receding in Kawas and Malwa areas and it would get cleared by next month end, he told reporters here.

Both India and Pakistan were eager to resume the train service as passengers travelling between the two countries through Rajasthan were anxiously waiting for their journey, he said.

Non-operation of the train had not caused much financial loss but created inconvenience for passengers, Velu said.

Brushing aside local media reports that Pakistan might not be interested in running the train across the border, the Minister said that there was no official communication on this issue. Sometime media blew facts out of proportion and created controversy, he said.

With North-West Zone railways doing "remarkable" work in track conversion in Rajasthan too, the next railway budget would be cover due demands of the respective states, he said.

The Sikar-Churu-Reengus and Udaipur-Himmatnagar broad gauge conversion in Rajasthan would be coopleted in the current fiscal year, he said.

With aggressive marketing services, the railways will be making a profit of Rs 20,000 crore as against Rs 13500 crore last year, Velu said.
