China today expelled three lawmakers from parliament and two senior advisors for their alleged involvement in corruption.
The Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), the top legislative body voted to strip Liu Weiming, Deng Zhonghua and Li Yichao of their parliamentary membership.
Liu, a provincial-rank official of Guangdong Province, was dismissed for "seriously violating discipline" as per a decision made earlier by the Provincial People's Congress in Guangdong in southern China.
Previous media reports said Liu had been involved in economic crimes.He was also expelled from the ruling Communist Party of China.
Deng, president of Hunan Chendian International Development Co, is suspected of taking and offering huge bribes after being investigated by anti-corruption authorities in central Hunan Province.
Deng was appointed president of Hunan Chendian International Development Co in March 2004.
Li, former board chairman of Luoyang Zhongtai Group in central Henan Province, was stripped of his membership in the NPC for alleged tax evasion. Investigation showed that Li's company evaded more than 14 million yuan (1.8 million U.S. Dollars) of taxes from May 2005 to December 2006.
Meanwhile, the Standing Committee of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), the top advisory body also effected two dismissals of corrupt advisors.
Former director of the State Food and Drugs Administration, Zheng Xiaoyu is being investigated for allegedly abusing his position and taking bribes in exchange for ignoring drug approval regulations.
Former director of the National Bureau of Statistics, Qiu Xiaohua was earlier sacked and expelled from the ruling Communist Party of China.
Qiu, who was accused of bribe-taking and polygamy, is currently in custody.
Qiu was among a handful of high ranking officials that fell amid China's strong anti-graft campaign last year, which also brought down Shanghai's former Party chief Chen Liangyu, the highest ranking Communist official busted in a corruption probe in a decade.
All the dismissals were announced ahead of the annual full session of the CPPCC and NPC from March 3 and March 5 respectively where the growing cases of corruption will be one of the main topics of discussion.
