Boating industry major British Marine Federation (BMF) considers India as its biggest market for 2007, a top company official said here today.
Participating in the first ever boat show here, BMF CEO Robert Stevens said the company was aiming at a "whole raft of things", including wealth generation, both in India and at their end.
"We are eager to help the boating industry in India grow and we understand it to be an emerging market in the luxury arena.
"The growth of the boating industry has spin-offs in infrastructure, employment, apparel and other sectors," Stevens said.
With the luxury goods market pegged at half a billion US dollars and growing at 20 per cent per annum, India and the Asian markets are being targeted by BMF, he said.
The UK leisure industry had grown at 7.8 per cent over the last 10 years and now is touching 2.8 billion pounds. It generated about 35,000 jobs, he said.
"The growth of the boating industry in India will also help environmentally and more specifically the cleaning up of the seas," he said.
