Oil futures fall on higher distillate supplies

Crude oil futures fell for a third day Wednesday as refiners increased inventories of heating oil and diesel, reports Xinhua.

On Wednesday, the department of energy reported that US inventories of distillate fuel, a category that includes heating oil and diesel, rose 1.3 million barrels last week to 107.7 million.



US refineries produced 4.2 million barrels of distillate fuel a day, up 1.1 percent from the prior week and the highest since January.

On the New York Mercantile Exchange, light, sweet crude oil futures for July delivery fell $1.22 to end at $52.54 a barrel. In London, the July Brent crude oil futures declined $1.02 to settle at $52.11 per barrel on the International Petroleum Exchange.

Meanwhile, the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) indicated it might consider a proposal to raise output quotas when it meets next week. A senior OPEC official said a plan to increase quotas by 500,000 barrels a day was "on the table".
