Americans roughed up at Taj, trooper suspended

An American couple was roughed up at the Taj Mahal by a trooper after he illegally took them atop a watchtower to view the 17th century monument to love.
The incident took place Sunday morning and Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) trooper Brahmdutt, posted on watchtower number 5, was suspended the same evening after a written complaint against him.
Eyewitnesses told newspersons that the trooper had tried to physically assault the American woman, though there was no such mention in the report.
According to CISF officials, the American couple had been illegally invited to see the Taj from the watchtower, for which Brahmdutt wanted some extra payment.
The couple gave him only Rs.20, but he probably wanted at least Rs.100. This led to arguments and manhandling. Soon a crowd gathered.
Officials took hold of Brahmdutt. After the written complaint, an inquiry took place and he was suspended.
Tourism bodies in the city have reacted sharply to the ill treatment meted out to the foreign tourists at a high profile monument like the Taj Mahal.
