The Assam-based Bongaigaon Refinery and Petrochemical Ltd (BRPL), a subsidiary of Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (IndianOil), has registered a 57 percent rise in net profit to Rs.4.78 billion in the 2004-05 fiscal.
"The refinery witnessed the highest ever capacity utilisation of 98 percent during the year with a total of 2.31 million tonnes of crude being processed," IndianOil chairman and managing director S. Behuria told reporters Monday.
"During the year, the BRPL turnover witnessed a rise of 56 percent to Rs.49.92 billion, up from Rs.32.04 billion in the previous year. The profit after tax rose by 57 percent to Rs.4.78 billion as against Rs.3.04 billion in the previous fiscal," Behuria said.
The gross refinery margin also witnessed a 63 percent rise from $5.2 a tonne to $8.5 a tonne, the official said.
To help the refinery meet the Bharat Stage III quality specification for diesel and petrol from 2010, Behuria said, "We have already initiated steps for setting up a diesel hydro treatment plant as well as motor spirit maximisation and quality upgradation project, which would take care of elimination of naphtha production also."
On the proposed merger of BRPL with IndianOil, the official said the matter was under study.
