New highway to link Ranchi and Vijaywada

A new national highway will be built to link this Jharkhand capital and Vijaywada in Andhra Pradesh, Orissa Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has announced.
An agreement on building the highway had been reached at the Eastern Zonal Council meeting. The road would bring economic development to the eastern states, he said.
The highway would bring employment opportunities and open up avenues of development in the areas it passes through. It will also help to curb the Maoist menace to some extent, said Patnaik.
On the issue of Maoist violence, Patnaik said: "The problem is not related with any one state. Several states are facing this problem." He said collective efforts were needed to counter the menace.
