Mobster Dawood Ibrahim had offered to present a car each to members of the Indian cricket team in the 1980s, former Indian cricket board official Jaywant Lele said Monday.
Lele, the former secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), made the allegations in a television interview but added that the cars were never given.
"He (Dawood) had said that he would give a Toyota car to all the members of the team, including the physiotherapist," Lele said on Headlines Today channel.
Lele also alleged that former Indian captain Mohammed Azharuddin and Dawood were friends, saying that no one at that time knew who he (Dawood) was.
"It was only after the Bombay riots that everyone came to know that he was a don," said Lele, without categorically saying that Dawood influenced international matches.
The match fixing scandal broke in March-April 2000 when Delhi Police blew the lid off Hansie Cronje case.
Subsequently, the BCCI banned five players following its own inquiry after an investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
