The government Monday told the Delhi High Court that it has no control over elections to various posts of sports bodies and the framing of guidelines in the ongoing case involving the Indian Hockey Federation (IHF).
The government, in its affidavit filed in the N.K. Batra versus K.P.S. Gill case, pointed out that "sports" figures in the "state list" of the Indian Constitution as item no. 33 and the government has no jurisdiction over sports bodies.
IHF vice president Batra is seeking quashing of the election of IHF president Gill and secretary K. Jothikumaran, both in their third terms now.
The government counsel cited the recent case involving the Board of Control for Cricket in India and some other judgements to support its point.
Arun Jaitley, appearing for petitioner Batra, argued after the government reply had been filed.
Counsels for Gill and the government will continue arguments Tuesday.
