The National Consumer Helpline (NCH) set up to address grievances of consumers has received 4,000 complaints in its first two months.
The NCH received the 4,000 complaints since its inception March 15 to May 21. Of these, over 1,585 complaints were lodged in April from 10 states, said a statement from the department of consumer affairs here Friday.
Domestic home appliances and telecom services constituted 60 percent of the complaints.
Most of the complaints - 43 percent - were from Delhi followed by Maharashtra (21 percent).
In the service sector, the telecom sector invited the maximum grievances, such as delay in converting pre-paid connections to post-paid, overcharging and roaming facility.
The NCH is meant to promote out of court settlement of disputes so that the burden on consumer courts is reduced.
Apart from the NCH, the Online Complaints Registration and Mediation Mechanism of CORE (Consumer Online Resource and Empowerment) received 491 calls in April, of which 30 percent were related to the telecom sector while 22 percent were regarding domestic appliances.
