The Haryana Police Friday evening raided a house here of former Indian cricket captain Mansur Ali Khan Pataudi after he did not present himself for questioning in a poaching case.
A five-member team of the Haryana Police searched Pataudi's B-2/10, Vasant Vihar home in south Delhi for half an hour but could not find the cricketer.
Pataudi's counsel said in Delhi suburb Faridabad, where an environment court is located, that he would not appear before the police or in court as summons had not been served on him.
"Though no warrant has been issued, we can still arrest Pataudi as he has ignored an order asking him to turn up before the police by Friday," said Inspector Swatantra Singh of the Haryana Police here.
He said only a domestic help was found inside the house. The team also searched the E-2/9, Vasant Vihar house of Pataudi's friend Shashi Singh.
Pataudi and Shashi Singh are among the eight people against whom a poaching case has been registered after they were caught with the carcasses of a black buck - a protected animal - in Haryana's Jhajjar district June 3.
One person, Madan Singh, has been arrested. According to the police, he claimed that Pataudi shot the black buck.
Police claim that Pataudi and two other suspects - his driver and a servant - are on the run.
Earlier in the day, Jhajjar district police chief Hanif Qureshi said none of the seven people appeared before the Jhajjar Sadar police station by 5 p.m. Friday - the deadline set by the authorities.
A police official in Jhajjar had said search operations would be launched for Pataudi in Delhi, Bhopal, Mumbai and Gurgaon.
For the others, police were likely to raid places in Delhi, Haryana and Rajasthan.
