A three-match series between Asia XI and World XI scheduled to be held in Houston, US in mid-June has been rescheduled by the organisers as they failed to secure visas for the Pakistani players in the Asian squad.
"We are disappointed that because of this last-minute hitch in getting visas for the Pakistani players, the matches have to be rescheduled," chief organiser Hasan Jalil was quoted as saying by The News.
"We will now try to secure visas for the Pakistani players from Islamabad. There is no such problem with the Indian players as they have visas for the US," Jalil said.
Originally scheduled to be held June 16, 18 and 19 by Cricket World International (CWI) in the Houston Astrodome, the home of baseball in the US, the series will now be held in late June-early July.
"They'll now hopefully be held from June 30 to July 3 during the long weekend in the (United) States," he said.
CWI had already signed on Virender Sehwag, Rahul Dravid, Anil Kumble, Irfan Pathan, Harbhajan Singh and Yuvraj Singh from India, apart from Inzamam-ul-Haq, Younis Khan, Shahid Afridi, Shoaib Malik and Yousuf Youhana from Pakistan.
Sri Lankans Mahela Jayawardene and Kumara Sangakkara (in place of the injured Sachin Tendulkar) were also part of the Asian squad.
