Advani to visit Jammu on 'martyrdom' day

Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) president L.K. Advani will visit Jammu June 23 to address a rally marking the "martyrdom" of Shyama Prasad Mookerjee, the founder of Jan Sangh, the BJP's predecessor.
Mookerjee is regarded as a "martyr" ever since he died in prison while campaigning for the unconditional integration of Jammu and Kashmir with India.
This will be Advani's first visit outside of New Delhi since his return from Pakistan, where his remarks on Mohammad Ali Jinnah triggered a storm leading to his resignation. He later took back his resignation.
Like elsewhere, most people in Jammu too criticised Advani for his Jinnah remarks.
"There was no need to praise Jinnah as secular," said Vinay Sharma, a university student, referring to Advani's statement in Karachi.
