After a month-long business war among 27 banks, the State Bank of India (SBI) has bagged the Chhattisgarh Housing Board's (CGHB) Rs.700 million bank account.
To outsmart rivals, SBI offered a 2 percent higher interest rate to the board.
"We reached an annual banking agreement last week, according to which we closed all our bank accounts and opened one account with a Rs.700 million initial deposit with SBI's Raipur branch," CGHB chairman Subhash Rao said.
"The SBI would automatically transfer the amount to a corporate liquid term deposit account that would bear the highest interest for the shortest period.
"We will get 2 percent higher interest rate compared to SBI's other rate plans. This will provide us an additional annual income of Rs.10 million," Rao added.
CGHB is one of India's best financially managed organisation in the housing sector. It hasn't taken a loan from any financial organisation since its formation.
