The hunt for former cricketer Mansur Ali Khan Pataudi ran out of steam Sunday as the three special search teams returned to Jhajjar in Haryana empty-handed without any clue on his whereabouts.
Pataudi and seven others were caught with the carcass of a black buck - a protected animal - in Jhajjar district June 3. A case has been registered against them under the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972.
Pataudi has been absconding since June 3. The special search teams, constituted by the Haryana Police after the deadline for his surrender ended Friday, returned to Jhajjar late Saturday night.
"There is no news today. The search conducted at different places has not yielded any thing till now. So things have fallen silent as of now," Inspector Swatantra Singh told IANS Sunday.
Singh headed one of the three search teams that looked for Pataudi at his residence and at the home of his friend in south Delhi Friday night before heading to Bulandshahr in Uttar Pradesh Saturday.
The search teams had been sent to Delhi, Gurgaon, the cricketer's ancestral home in Pataudi village in Haryana and Bulandshahr in Uttar Pradesh. The police had also claimed that a team would soon go to Mumbai to look for the former Test cricket captain.
Jhajjar police chief Haneef Qureshi was not available for comment.
Police say that Pataudi and two other suspects - his driver and a servant - are on the run.
