Depressed after her marriage proposal was rejected a third time, a young woman committed suicide in Jharkhand's industrial hub Jamshedpur, police said Tuesday.
Rinki Kumari, a final year student of Graduate School College for women, committed suicide by hanging herself Sunday night at her Barigora residence in Jamshedpur, some 135 km east of here.
One of the neighbours said the girl went into depression after her marriage talks failed for a third time a few days ago.
"All the proposals were primarily rejected because she was short. Rinki's father and brother were ready to meet all the demands of the prospective bride-grooms' families," friends of the family said.
Rinki's father Ramjanam Singh said his daughter was very obedient and level-headed and never showed signs of worry even in adverse situations.
Her elder brother, who is in the army, said: "We were ready to go beyond our financial limits so that she was married into a good family. But everything has come to an end just because she was rejected for being short".
Other family members admitted that Rinki had been depressed for the last few days. "We had noticed that after rejection of her marriage proposal, Rinki was a bit depressed and probably this was the reason she committed suicide."
