The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) Tuesday passed a resolution here asking Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President L.K. Advani to quit active politics over his remarks in Pakistan implicitly praising its founder Mohammad Ali Jinnah.

At the end of its two-day Kendriya Marg Darshak Mandal, VHP leader Acharya Dharmendra demanded that Advani be replaced saying the party would otherwise turn into a "Bharatiya Jinnah Party".
 
Addressing a press conference, Dharmendra also attacked the BJP top brass for what he termed as "betraying the Hindu cause" and adopting opportunistic tactics. He asserted that senior party leaders should apologize and retire.

Dharmendra said that there were "thinking leaders" within the BJP but they were being neglected in the current regime.

He also said that there was need for a clear Hindutva agenda and reiterated the outfit's demand for Akhand Bharat (United India) with Hinduism as its mainstay.

The VHP felt that there was no place for secularism or for vote bank politics, which he said leads to the "appeasement" of Muslims and Christians.

Earlier, differences cropped up at the meeting here on the demand for a "tough" line against Advani in the wake of his remarks in Pakistan that led to a furore in the ranks of the Sangh Parivar.

Senior leader Swami Hans Das, who is general secretary of the Sant Samiti, demanded Advani`s resignation from the post of BJP president, as Leader of Opposition and from parliament.
