The US embassy Tuesday asked students to apply early for educational visas in view of the summer rush.
The embassy dispelled rumours of a quota on student visas after the 9/11 attacks and clarified that all eligible students would get visas as per the rules.
"Anyone who is qualified for a student visa will receive it. The basic eligibility criteria has not changed," the embassy said.
It, however, confirmed that some additional security steps had been added to the visa process, including Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) and finger printing.
These processes had been seamlessly integrated into the visa application process to help in quick processing of applications, the embassy said.
The embassy asked first-timers to apply for visa interviews early through the online system at www.TTSVisas.com.
It also said that those seeking high technology courses in sensitive fields should apply early as the processing of such visas takes more time.
