A study will explore the possibility of laying a pipeline to send natural gas from Bangladesh to Nepal and Bhutan, reports Xinhua.
"We have agreed to undertake such a study," Nepalese Foreign Secretary Madhuraman Acharya said here Thursday.
An agreement to conduct the study was reached during a foreign secretary-level meeting of the Bangladesh, India, Myanmar, Sri Lanka and Thailand Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) in Dhaka, he said.
Acharya led the Nepalese delegation at the meeting last week.
During the meeting, officials stressed on the importance of using natural gas, given the increasing price of petroleum products.
Establish in 1997, BIMSTEC groups seven countries located around the Bay of Bengal.
The areas of cooperation in the group are technology, trade and investment, transport and communication, energy, tourism and fisheries.
Myanmar and Bangladesh are rich in natural gas.
