The founder and managing worker of the Sahara Group, Subrata Roy, who has not been seen in public for several months, is expected to make an appearance in Lucknow Friday on the occasion of his 58th birthday.
A senior official in the Sahara Group said Roy would in all likelihood address an audience at a felicitation function in Lucknow's Sahara Sahar, reassuring employees and investors that he was in control of his Rs.500,000 million ($10.87-billion) business empire.
Ever since Roy withdrew from public life in January, there have been wild rumours about his failing health.
"To ward off all speculation over his health and welfare, he will make this grand appearance," the official said.
The initial proposal was to parade Roy before cameras so that employees and investors could get a glimpse of him and have an idea of the state of his health. However, that idea was abandoned and it was decided that he would speak on the occasion of his birthday.
Video clips of Roy addressing a small audience are also expected to be sent to television channels.
