19 get life sentence for murder in West Bengal

A district court in West Bengal Friday sentenced 19 people, including a husband and wife, to life imprisonment for the murder of a Trinamool Congress leader four years ago.
Midnapore District Additional Judge Anita Debnath passed the order in the sensational murder case of Trinamool Congress leader Gautam Choubey.
The prime accused in the murder case is one Basab Rambabu. His wife was also implicated. Rambabu and the others were charged under the Indian Penal Code.
Gautam Choubey, son of former Communist Party of India parliamentarian Narayan Choubey, was murdered at Malancha in Kharagpur town on Sept 11, 2001.
The Midnapore court had given a similar judgement on Aug 31, 2001, in the case but the accused had challenged the verdict in Calcutta High Court.
The high court judges had asked the district court to reconsider the verdict.
