NCP urges more co-ordination in UPA

The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) Friday called for greater co-ordination among the constituents of the ruling United Progressive Alliance (UPA).

The party, led by Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar, passed a resolution at its national executive meet held in south Gujarat city of Surat, 220 km from here, calling for more harmonious relations among the UPA partners and seeking more and regular meetings of the constituents.



Several UPA leaders, including Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) chief Ram Vilas Paswan and Communist Party of India (CPI) general secretary A.B. Bardhan, attended the NCP meet.

The resolution blamed the Narendra Modi government in Gujarat for the communal violence of 2002 which claimed at least 1,000 lives.

"We condemn the polarization propagated by the Sangh Parivar. People have not forgotten the worst communal carnage in the nation's history (which was) perpetrated by the Narendra Modi Government," the resolution said.
