Security forces Friday killed two of the three guerrillas holed up inside a shrine in a Jammu and Kashmir village.
A fierce gun battle was on and the army had lit up the area around the shrine at Wallerhama, 72 km south of Srinagar, to ensure that the lone holed up separatist did not escape during the night.
Police said one Rashtriya Rifles (RR) trooper and a member of the special operations group (SOG) were injured in the operation in Anantnag district.
"We have so far killed two militants holed up inside the village shrine. One militants is still inside the premises and an exchange of fire is on," said Inspector General of Police Javed Mukhdoomi.
He said the security forces had laid a tight siege around the shrine complex but were maintaining utmost caution to protect it.
Police sources, however, said the shrine was partially damaged in the gun battle.
"We have rushed reinforcements and the operation is continuing," said a police officer in Anantnag.
