Five people, including two women and three security personnel, were injured when Maoists ambushed a passenger bus in Jharkhand, police said Saturday.
The incident occurred at 3.30 p.m. in Latehar district when personnel of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and the Jharkhand Police were returning to their camp in a bus that also carried 20 civilian passengers.
A 50-strong group of Maoists, dressed in black and armed with sophisticated weapons, opened fire on the bus and the security personnel returned the fire, police said.
Three security personnel, including a CRPF sub-inspector and two women, were injured in the exchange of fire that lasted an hour-and-a-half.
The injured have been identified as sub-inspector Onkar Singh Tyagi, and Kulvinder Singh and Vishal Rai of the Jharkhand Police.
The identity of the two women was not known as they left the scene immediately after the firing stopped.
