Baglihar project to be commissioned in December

Jammu and Kashmir government today said the 450 MW Baglihar hydro-electric power project would be commissioned by the year end.

Replying to a question by Bilal Ahmad Khan Lodhi, Minister of State for Power Peer Mohammad Hussain said in the legislative council that commissioning of major projects like 450 MW Baghlihar-I HEP under state sector and 390 MW Dulhasti HEP under Central sector would be taken place in December and March 2007.

Commissioning of these two power projects will be a significant step forward in achieving self-sufficiency, he said.

Besides various projects are under execution and proposed during 11th five year plan for the purpose and mini hydel projects are allotted for development to independent power producers in accordance with the state hydel policy, he added.

In reply to another question by Ghulam Nabi Lone Hussain informed the house that no new receiving station and distribution sub-stations have been set up.

Minister for Social Welfare Haji Nissar Ali informed the Council that the population of Gaddi in the state is estimated on the basis of figures given by the Registrar General of India in 1987 and is around 30,000. There is no Passi community registered in the state but Sippies are residing, whose population is an estimated 10,000.
