The Indian High Commission here has extended the period of its temporary visa counter in Lahore till February 24 to provide travel permits for relatives of victims of the Samjhautha Express blasts.
The visa office set up on February 19 has so far issued 70 visas for relatives of the blast victims to visit Panipat and New Delhi to identify the dead as well as to meet the injured, Indian officials here said.
Pakistanis who were permitted to cross the Indo-Pak border by foot through Wagah with a 10-day visa were also provided with transport and hospitality facilities on the Indian side.
The temporary visa facility was opened with the permission of Pakistan Foreign Office.
A number of relatives of the blast victims began arriving in Lahore from Karachi to obtain visas to visit India, said Manas Kumar Mustafi, a senior official of the Indian High Commission.
Mustafi said visas were being granted within an hour after minor verification. The only problem was that some people approached without passports, and could not be given visas, he said.
