Attributed to its geographical location between India and China, the United States of America has always made its presence felt in the Himalayan nation with some activities or the other for strategic reasons, feels Manoj Singh a political observer.

"The USA has always been interfering in the politics of Nepal for their own future benefit", said Manoj Singh, a political observer.

As per the peace treaty signed on January 15, an Interim Constitution has come into force in Nepal. Consequently, in the new Government, the Maoists have a major share.

Since Maoists have opposed any American activity, Washington is believed to have explored new venues to make foray in Nepal.

American NGO's are providing the rural areas near the Indian border with primary medical care-center equipped with professionals and modern diagnostic and operation facilities.

"We have set up this centre in rural areas as we feel that there are not enough hospitals in these areas. We think that this step will help democracy as this provides health facilities to everyone equally" said Steve Simpson of the Pennsylvania United Medical Association USA, presently camping in Nepal.

Apart from this, the American Centre is also distributing books on democracy to the people.

While, many villagers are happy with the new facilities, the literate youth are showing interest in the books on democracy.

However, certain political factions have not been critical of this social work done by the American NGOs.

Nepali Congress President Ram Chandra Dhakal said: "Through this it is visible that Government is providing health facilities also in rural areas".
