Chinese men born after the 1970s could find it difficult to find a spouse as baby boys have been outnumbering girls since the 1980s, according to a report by the China Juvenile Research Centre (CJRC).
China's fifth national census in 2000 showed that 119.92 boys were born for every 100 girls.
"It's possible that men will not find a spouse among their contemporaries both now and in the future," said Chen Chen, a researcher at CJRC.
Heavy work pressures are also contributing to men's problem of finding a wife, Xinhua news agency quoted the report as saying.
About 58.6 per cent of the respondents in a recent survey say they have a narrow circle of acquaintances, and 27.1 per cent complain they don't have time to date because they were too busy with work.
