Whenever you are traveling there is always a certain factor of risk involved. Somehow you try to minimize it by insurance: which covers your home country. But when it comes to travel to another country, you have to again look at insurance, as the normal insurance will not cover the travel insurance. Here are some points you should be able to cover when you go in for travel insurance policies. · Medical Risks: Ensure that the travel insurance policy provides coverage for the full duration of your trip for any expenses incurred due to illness or injury that may occur to you, your family members or other travel companions. Determine whether the policy provides that the insurer will pay the doctor or hospital up front, or whether the policy requires that you make the payment first and seek reimbursement from the insurer later. If you have any preexisting medical conditions such as diabetes, epilepsy, asthma, etc., make sure that the policy will still cover you for these conditions.· Accidental Death: The travel insurance policy should provide adequate coverage for the costs involved with the repatriation of remains in the event of accidental death.· Third Party Liability: This coverage will protect you against legal liability claims asserted against you for injury or damage to others and their property while you are outside the country.· Trip Cancellation: If you are forced to cancel your trip due to illness to you or a family member (or for any other justifiable reason), trip cancellation insurance will reimburse you for any non-refundable costs of your trip.· Trip Interruption: This coverage provides reimbursement in the event that your vacation is cut short because of accident, serious illness or an unexpected outbreak of riot or civil commotion in the country that you are visiting. Ensure that the travel insurance policy provides sufficient coverage to at least cover the cost of a one-way, economy class ticket from your destination to your original departure city.· Baggage Loss: This coverage will reimburse you for the value of your baggage in the event it is lost or stolen, to the extent that full reimbursement has not been made by the carrier.· Limitations or Exclusions: Read the policy so that you are fully aware of all limitations and exclusions that may apply.
