For many years, the Lamaze Method of natural childbirth has been a popular method which has been used successfully by thousands of mothers and fathers-to-be. There is an alternative approach that is equally successful to the Lamaze Method, though, and it is known as The Bradley Method. This method was created by Doctor Robert Bradley, an obstetrician and gynecologist who believes in healthy, natural childbirth, as well as in the active participation of the father of the baby. This method focuses on healthy, medication-free, pain-controlled childbirth. The Bradley Method is taught in twelve separate sections or classes. 1. The first class teaches the expectant mother about staying healthy with the proper diet and exercise. Instead of big meals prefer to eat small but nutritional meals. Avoid spicy or fried food. Exercise can be relaxing and enjoyable. Relaxation techniques are also learned at this time. These techniques will continue to be practiced throughout the rest of the classes. 2. The second class expands further on the nutritional needs of the mother and teaches proper techniques of breast feeding. 3. As, the mother experiences great changes in the body, so the third class teaches the expectant parents about the growth of the baby and the changes that are taking place inside the mother's body. 4. Fathers are also asked to attend the classes as they can play a big role in giving strength and support to the pregnant lady. 5. The fifth class discusses the first stage of labor. Parents are encouraged to practice rehearsing the labor process from this point on. 6. The sixth class covers the second stage of labor. 7. The parents are told about the plan for the baby's birth. 8. The eighth class discusses how the mother needs to take care of herself after the childbirth has happened. 9 & 10. Then the classes include advanced coaching techniques about child-birth, how to sit or lie down during delivery. 11. The eleventh class focuses on the father and his important role in the birthing process. The father needs to be totally prepared at this point. 12. Finally, the twelfth and final class is about adjusting to the addition of your new baby! Note: All of the classes are geared towards the mother having a natural, risk-free childbirth. By the time the mother and the father have finished the entire course, they will both have learned about the entire process of having a baby. And, because of that, the couple should be adequately prepared for the happy event. Through proper health practices and nutrition, physical exercises, relaxation exercises, and much more, the mother increases her chances of having a healthy, happy childbearing experience. If you are interested in learning more about the Bradley Method, you can ask your doctor or healthcare professional, or, you can search the Internet for a qualified instructor who teaches the course in or near they city in which you live.
