Ozone layer is useful as it prevents the harmful sunrays to reach the earth. The ozone layer is being destroyed little by little every year. Recent estimates from NASA state that the ozone layer is being depleted at a rate of 4 to 6 percent each decade. These sun-rays can cause many disastrous effects if you are over-exposed to these rays. There are some methods that could help you to prevent the harmful sun rays. Know about them; 1. Avoid Tanning Beds: Unfortunately, people have the false belief that tanning beds are safe. They aren’t. For while it was believed that the UV rays emitted from tanning beds were not harmful because the sunlamps only gave off UVA and little, if any, UVB rays. UVA can cause serious skin damage, possibly the worst of all skin cancers; melanoma. Sunlamps used in homes are the same. 2. Always use a good sunscreen: Sunscreen provides us with a way to block the sunlight from exposure to our skin. But it’s essential to buy a good quality sun-screen. These are available in the market and choose SPF-15. Everyone should use sunscreen 15-30 minutes before they go outside in order for the sunscreen to take affect. It should be applied to each body part and should be re-applied at least every two hours even if you are in water. 3. Cover your head and wear sunglasses: Hats are perfect for protecting those sensitive skin areas such as the ears, face, nose, eyes, neck and scalp. Sunglasses are essential in protecting your eyes. Make sure that you purchase glasses that have a high UV radiation protection or you’ll be wasting your money. Look for the label that states the protection. If there’s no label – don’t buy them. Children should also be wearing proper UV protection sunglasses. 4. Clothes: Wear lightweight, loose clothing as much as possible in the sun. Shirts with long sleeves and pants or long skirts are ideal. A tightly weaved cloth is the best for absorbing and reflecting the UV rays. Clothes that you can see through will not protect you as the UV rays can get through. Wet clothes also allow the sun’s rays to pass through them. Be careful and mindful of what you wear. By following these tips you can prevent the risk of developing skin cancer, which is becoming quite popular now a days.
