Rosacea is a skin disorder usually the affect is seen on the face and cheeks. You may have seen someone with extremely red face, this is not a situation to give a compliment. Because the person is suffering from a skin problem, that’s called rosacea. More than 13 million people in the United States are suffering from rosacea. Rosacea usually occurs in adults between the ages of 30 and 60. Although women are more often affected by the mild or moderate symptoms, men who have the disorder suffer more severely. The condition can develop in any skin type but it tends to be more frequent in fair skinned people and it does tend to be hereditary.
Causes: Even the causes of rosacea are not exactly known. Some scientists believe it is caused by Demodex folliculorum, a tiny mite, which lives in the facial hair follicles and may clog the openings to glands causing inflammation. Some others believe it to be linked to Helicobacter pylori, a bacterium that causes infections in the gastrointestinal system. Still some researchers believe the disease to be primarily a disorder of the blood vessels where something causes them to swell and become flushed and/or red. However, most doctors strongly believe there is a link between genetic predispositions with the combination of different types of environmental factors.
Though the exact causes are not known, but the triggers which cause the problem to worsen or initiate is known. In most of the cases, the problem is caused by excessive consumption of alcohol, exposure to sun, heat, strenuous exercise, dry, rough, cold and windy weather, intake of hot drinks and spicy foods. Some times emotional stress and tensions in life, prolonged coughing, and irritating skin cleansers or moisturizers can also worsen the problem. Every person is different and some people may not have as severe of a reaction to certain stimuli while others may suffer tremendously. This condition can get worse the longer you have it, especially if you don’t seek treatment.
